Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday to you
Happy Birthday dear Mamma Biscuit
Happy Birthday to you!
YAY
Exactly three years ago on this very day, Tommy and I ventured down to the East Village to pick up our little pug waiting for us at Curly Tail Pug Rescue. Back then, she was marked as eight years old without a confirmed Birthday—and no one had any idea when she could have been born. How sad is that? Can you imagine a life without knowing when you were born, or worse, without any acknowledgment, love or care for it? Now I know Mamma is an animal and she wouldn’t know the difference between a Birthday or any old regular day but she sure knows the difference between life at a puppy mill and life here with us. Also, as you can see through this blog, we treat Mamma Biscuit as if every day were her Birthday! The fact that she’s still kicking around after eight years of indoor crate life and being forced to have litter after litter of puppies proves that animals are really resilient and they can thrive wonderfully with a whole lot of love and care—and quite frankly, no other dog deserves it more than she does.
So we did what any logical dog owner would do three years ago, we made Mamma Biscuit’s arrival date home at the Pug Palace her official Birthday—and today is the big day! So get out a pen and mark this damn day down on your calendar and then go outside and spend some quality time with your pets, children, friends or spouse! Today is not only a day we celebrate Mamma Biscuit but a day to remember and appreciate the important people or animals in our lives and to never take them for granted! Mamma’s freedom and finding a loving home was really her rebirth into the happy life she was meant to have!
I’m sure by now, you all know that our little gremlin beast is the daintiest of dogs and she loves being pampered like the New York City pooch that she is. No other activity gets Mamma Biscuit more excited than a visit to the local doggy grooming spa for a little Birthday beautification. So here is our glowing Biscuit Lady after a visit to Alberto’s Pet Shop and Grooming in our neighborhood where she got a much needed bath, some claw clipping and her anal glands were expressed. I know, I know, too much information but you have to understand, when she gets this total European spa treatment, she comes home smelling like the inside of a brand new car—and her disposition is just as shiny and brand new!
From Albertos, we took Mamma on a walk through the park for some much needed fresh air and exercise. We made our usual stop at our spot in Fort Tryon Park for a Birthday photoshoot before heading home for some Birthday treats. We decked Mamma Biscuit out in a new Laura Ashley inspired summer frock and a set of giant pearls that would make Laura Bush green with envy! Our Little Gremlin is giving her best day in the garden at the White House with the First Lady in these photographs. Now Laura Bush may no longer be our First Lady (thank goodness) but I’d like to think that Michelle Obama would approve of this look too—after all, Mamma is showing off her shoulders and sleeves—if you can call it that!
After entertaining the local children (and ourselves) with Mamma’s Birthday photoshoot in the park, we headed back to the Pug Palace for some Sweet Semosh baked treats! Tommy made Mamma her favorite vegan peanut butter carrot muffins with the letters M and B spelled out in pale yellow icing on top! Mamma was so uncontrollable, running back and forth on our sofa as we were bringing out all of the baked goods for her party. The aroma wafting through our living room must have sent her nose and her little brain into over drive but like the well-mannered little girl that she is, she waited patiently to be fed despite her excitement!
Another interesting fact about Mamma Biscuit is that although she may be seventy-seven years old in dog years, she’s practically reverted back to being a puppy! As of lately, she’s been chasing her tail around as if she were a two year old dog—and every day, she seems to gain more and more of a youthful, energetic spirit. It’s like living with the curious case of Mamma Biscuit at our household as she reverts back to being young again rather than growing old. Now although I love the idea of Mamma being a cougar (which she is from time to time) she can also run with the young crowd and blend seamlessly without any problems! Simply put, our bitch is forever timeless!
Happy Birthday Mamma Biscuit! Today we celebrate you and your life and the joy and happiness you bring to our lives!
By the way, if you haven’t seen this already, head on over to Dogster to read our feature interview by Julia Szabo that was posted on June 8th—you all are going to love it!
Enjoy
