Mamma’s Day of the Dead!

The grand spectacle of Halloween can sometimes overshadow the wonderful Day of the Dead holiday (also known as All Saints and All Souls Day) that takes place immediately afterwards—on the first and second of November. Is anyone really surprised though? Most people are either sleeping, detoxifying or still in the process of peeling off their face paint from the night before, so honoring the dead, Mexican-style is farthest from anyone’s mind.

At any rate, Mamma Biscuit wanted to do just that—give an early shout-out to all the pugs around the world that have passed on to the giant pug city floating in the sky. Our Biscuit Lady and her Daddy pay homage by combining their love for Halloween and the Day of the Dead by wearing their respective skeleton outfits, sharing a few tasty sugar skulls and simply sharing a special moment together! Who knew that this Halloween-Day-of-the-Dead-themed photoshoot would turn into some kind of psuedo-avantgarde session? Mamma Biscuit has so much versatility as a model!

Our little Biscuit Lady really knows how to channel her best skeleton without looking like she has an eating disorder and Daddy Tommy looks so adorable in that Day of the Dead onsie with backside hatch too!

In conclusion, Halloween and the Day of the Dead have nothing to do with the Devil or Satanic rituals (OK, sometimes they do) but rather it’s a time when we can make light of the inevitable—DEATH! We celebrate death by taking on the guise of someone or something else—and still have a reason to gorge on free candy and to deface public property with shaving cream and eggs!

It’s pure Halloween delirium at Mamma’s place on the web, stay tuned for more people!

It’s the Great Pumpkin!

It took us a while to persuade out little Biscuit to wait in the pumpkin patch for the Great Pumpkin to appear! Ok, I know this isn’t necessarily a pumpkin patch but use your imagination, it’s close enough. Like Lucy in Charlie Browns’ It’s the Great Pumpkin, Mamma wasn’t buying it! She wasn’t about to miss the festivities of Halloween to wait for an imaginary Pumpkin to appear to give her any treats. NO, our little gremlin knows exactly where to go to get what she wants, and when she wants it, (mainly food) she shoves her snout in my face while sneezing and rolling up her tongue in her mouth. If it’s not my face, it’s in my ear and the audio alone on such an up-close moment with Mamma’s snout is tremendous—and wet!

Anyway, with a little coaxing by way of a large bag of soft-chew treats, Mamma posed for these photos in the pumpkin patch. We like to think she was waiting for The Great Pumpkin but I can assure you that if, while waiting, she stumbled upon an unknown silhouette in the dark that turned out to be Snoopy, she would just give him a glazed look and jump off that haystack as if nothing ever happened! Again, the Bitch isn’t buying it! It’s the same attitude we get when we place her on Santa’s lap on Black Friday—she gives him the side-eye and shows more interest in the hanging candy canes behind his fury head!

So give it up for Mamma Biscuit for bringing you the best harvest of pumpkins for the Halloween season. There were plenty to choose from and boy did we get a nice pumpkin to carve. We have commissioned an artist to come and carve out a portrait of our Biscuit Beast and plan to shine her facial silhouette out the window, directing it into the sky on Halloween night—just like the Batman logo beaming over Gotham!

Six more days until Halloween, YAY!

The Ghost of Mamma’s Halloween Past

Pig, Pug, it’s just one little vowel that really changes the animal in question however Mamma Biscuit’s voracious appetite would really be more synonymous with Pig rather than Pug. At any rate, the Biscuits are reliving the ghost of Mamma’s Halloween past with these photos of her as “Pearls Before Swine” in 2009!

Do you see how muddy and wet the ground was in these photos? The fact that Mamma Biscuit was able to showcase herself in that pink pig suit and run around Fort Tryon Park for almost two hours without getting it dirty is a testament to how dainty she is. Our Biscuit Lady would rather spend an entire day at the doggy spa getting groomed than hanging out in a bacteria-infested dog run! Bitch clearly takes after her two daddies who have been known to obsess over facial masks and pedicures at the hot Korean spot in the West Village!

Anyway, here are a few photos of our little gremlin celebrating her first Howl-o-ween here in the big, bad city! This was also the year that I dressed up as John Galliano so don’t be puzzled by my pencil thin facial hair—it’s not like I was going for a Little Richard/John Waters look—don’t get it twisted, people!

After a day at the park and eating more than her fair-share of soft-chew treats, our Biscuit passed out, snout to the floor at the pug palace while still wearing her costume! Trust me, we tried prying that costume off of her but she just wouldn’t budge—so we let her win, as usual!

It’s nonstop Halloween coverage here at Mamma’s little corner on the web, so stay tuned for more!

Apples and a Biscuit!

Billie Holiday may have vocally painted a beautiful portrait of our city when she sang Autumn in New York but we Biscuits have a far better way of illustrating a perfect Autumn day in New York—and it involves our little Biscuit Lady, a little doggy wool sweater with a skull & crossbones on it, a few special friends and the backdrop of an apple orchard up in Highland, New York. Yes, there is nothing more perfect (and cozy I might add) than laying down underneath an apple tree with Mamma Biscuit in my arms and feeling the cool, brisk, breeze rushing over my face! Ok, I’ll admit that the signs that read “warning: poison ivy” placed sporadically around the orchards had me a bit worried but when we came across this beautiful patch of colorful leaves—I just couldn’t resist!

So here is our little gremlin looking like a stuffed animal in my arms during her third annual trip up to Wilklow Orchards this past Saturday. The day was simply perfect and Mamma was so damn cute as she ran through the thick and tall grass surrounding the apple trees! She’s so fearless sometimes, just running in vertigo down some fairly steep hills—all while I was chasing after her with my camera in hand! Bitch is fast and furious and only stops to pick up anything she deems edible with her epic tongue!

And here is Mamma Biscuit with her very special friends, Julie and Matt and Dean, Nicole and Sydney. Mamma sure feels the love from all corners of her sitting spot—especially from little Sydney who seems to have coined her “Mamma Basket” instead of Mamma Biscuit—now how adorable is that?

So as the song goes: “This Autumn in New York, transforms the slums into Mayfair, Oh, Autumn in New York, you’ll need no castles in Spain,” the same could be said about Mamma Biscuit! Her presence alone transforms our slums of Washington Heights into lush, rolling hills of an orchard and this wonderful season needs no frills or thrills of some exotic location like Spain. Take it from me, Autumn is complete with just our little pug running through the fields of an apple orchard at mock-speed while her overprotective Daddy runs after her like a lunatic!

Happy Autumn in New York everyone!
Enjoy!

Mamma’s Haunted House

Hey all you trick or treaters and Halloween lovers out there, don’t be afraid to approach the life-size paper skeleton hanging on the front door of our apartment—there’s a little pug on the other side of that door running in circles just waiting for your arrival! So come on in and take a tour of Mamma Biscuit’s haunted house—I swear, the only risk you’ll take upon entering through that creaky door is falling madly in love with our little gremlin. Our only recommendation is that you tip Mamma Biscuit for being your tour guide and for wearing an x-ray of herself in the process! A soft-chew treat on the way out will suffice! It’s either that or suffer the wrath of a hungry pug with one tooth and a long, sloppy tongue! Now for those of you who can’t make it up to Washington Heights (A.K.A. Canada) for a private and spooky tour, here are some highlights!

Isn’t it just so typical of Mamma Biscuit to mix in Christmas iconography with her Halloween trim? How you ask? Well, take a look at Mamma’s Halloween tree, do you notice the hand-cut ornaments of Krampus? Wait, you don’t know who he is? OK, here goes: According to legend, Krampus (represented by a demon-like creature) accompanies St. Nicholas during the Christmas season to warn and punish bad children by kidnapping them, spanking them (how strangely erotic) and generally threatening them of some dark demise if they don’t follow orders. On a side note, we tried using this very tactic with Mamma Biscuit (not the spanking, silly) whenever she misbehaves and pees on our kitchen floor but she just looks directly into the face of Krampus with a glazed look and then walks away with her head down, licking the floor in search of food! I mean, only in our household could we find dark and twisted humor in displaying such disturbing images of a character like Krampus as he snatches the Austrian and Bavarian youth from their homes for misbehaving and carrying them off in a wicker basket to some fire pit!

Thank goodness we have shapely body parts, black crows and ghouls made of twine to soften-up the overall look that Krampus adds to our tree. Let’s not forget the spooky, vintage blow-mold of a haunted house at the foot of the tree—when the lights go down, the eerie green and ambient glow adds just the right amount mood to put our Biscuit into a coma! Hell, it puts me straight to sleep too and that just sucks in a household that lacks a DVR!

Now onto Mamma Biscuit’s Halloween friends—aren’t they just so precious? Most are vintage Annalee from the late 60’s however, the Oak tree is a recent addition to our collection. Tommy has also created a wonderful Autumnal cloche in the bedroom that simply highlights death in such a beautiful way! Mamma has adorned almost every corner of the pug palace with either a blow-mold or some vintage classroom paper decoration and garland! As the next weeks unfold, perhaps the Biscuit Lady will share more with all of you!

We have two weeks until Halloween (and to square away any loose ends with Mamma’s costume) and the Biscuits intend to flood this blog with spooky photos and tales from Mamma’s Halloween past—all of which will hopefully inspire our readers to get into the spirit of celebrating the dead!

Now see, that wasn’t so spooky afterall! No fragmented mirrors, fog machines or annoying cackling from some unknown witch! No, just a living space filled with Halloween goodness—now where’s Mamma’s soft-chew treat?
