Canine Couture

Mamma Biscuit and family would like to take this opportunity to thank Valentino for sending us this exquisite, beautiful, custom-made couture frock. Our Lady of Biscuits was in pure high-fashion heaven when she realized that her dress had a five-foot bone-colored tulle train that extended out from a layered, pale pink, ruffled tulle hem. Just watching Mamma run off into the kitchen looking for a soft-chew treat while dragging that absurd amount of tulle across the floor simply tickled the crap out of me—she really knows how to wreck havoc on a set. I sometimes wonder what our neighbors would say if they knew what was going on during one of these high-fashion photoshoots at the pug palace. After all, we live in Washington Heights—a far cry from Madison Avenue and the only couture I see walking out of our building (aside from anything we may be wearing, obviously) is Juicy Couture—yeah, enough said.

Anyway, Valentino has completely outdone himself with this sweet and sugary, cupcake-of-a-dress. Mamma cannot wait to stroll down a red carpet or to attend the Opéra Garnier in this number when she visits Paris. She is totes ready to make a grand entrance—let’s just hope she doesn’t get that tulle trail twisted around herself. Mamma has a tendency to run around in circles and that would just bring “wardrobe malfunction” to a whole new level.

It comes as no surprise to us that Valentino adores Mamma Biscuit. Most high-fashion designers adore our little gremlin but Valentino especially adores her as he does pugs in general. Did you know that Valentino once named a second line of clothing after his late pug Oliver? What a way to honor a pugs life! In fact, Valentino currently has six pugs that trail behind him at all times: the mother, Molly; her sons Milton and Monty; and her daughters, Margot, Maude and Maggie. When Valentino travels on his 14-seat Challenger jet, three cars are needed to transport him and his entourage to the airport: one to move Valentino and his partner Giametti, another for the luggage and the staff and a third to transport five out of the six pugs. The sixth pug, Maude, travels exclusively with Valentino—and you all thought Mamma Biscuit was living the good life! If you want to see Valentino and his pow-wow of pugs in action, click here.

On second thought, Mamma is living the good life. She has food in her belly, two annoying queens that adore the hell out of her and fine couture on her back—what else could a bitch ever want or need?

Hell’s Kitchen Mamma

Mamma and the Biscuits had a fantastic weekend here in New York City strolling around and enjoying the unseasonably cool temperatures! On Saturday, we hit up the 35th Annual 44th Street Garage Sale between 8th and 9th Avenue before heading out to Astoria, Queens to visit our good friends Matt & Julie. Boy did we score a bunch of great T-shirts and sunglasses from a guy named Jack who calls himself “Jack of all trades”. He gave us such a great discount for simply disrobing in front of him to try on his wares. Hey, we have no problem whoring it up if it means getting a free pair of sunglasses and a free pair of short-shorts with our purchases—and I’m not going to lie, Jack and his station of goods started to draw a crowd because of us!

On our way out of that crazy street market, we stopped to take some family portraits in front of the Chipotle Mexican Grill on 34th street—I know, how random. Surprisingly, the exterior walls of this food-chain establishment made for a good backdrop and Mamma Biscuit looked so adorable in her pale pink zip-up. I can’t even begin to tell you how hard it is to take a photo across the width of an NYC sidewalk—so many pesky pedestrians but they all stopped to ooh and ahh at Mamma which afforded us enough time to take these lovely portraits. Mamma Biscuit loves her two daddies and we love her—she’s our little lady!

’scuse Mamma while she kisses the sky—and the camera!

And along the way, Mamma encountered a very pretty Giraffe—you just never know what the streets of New York City will yield!

Mamma on the run

Summer is in full swing and so is Mamma when it comes to her outdoor activities. When the temperatures cool down in the evening, we like to take our little beast on a sunset walk through Fort Tryon Park or through the rough and tumble streets of Washington Heights. Our big city pooch can navigate through Broadway and Bennett Avenue like a pro using her over-active nose to guide her from corner to corner—or to a potential chicken bone left over on the sidewalk—which ever comes first! Mamma can also utilizes her epic tongue to detect the direction of the wind for added guidance as it dangles below, near her feet.

After having Mamma Biscuit for nearly two years, we are still so surprised that she can manage to control that bologna-tongue of hers. It’s amazing how she can run without stumbling over it as it dangles near her stout legs.

Hey, if Odie can run with his tongue hanging out, so can Mamma!

Enjoy your weekend!

Tabletop manners

If there is one thing Mamma needs to brush up on it’s her manners. Don’t get me wrong, our little Biscuit would never jump up on you upon greeting her on the street. She would never slobber all over you despite how wet and menacing her epic tongue may look like in a photograph, however, the moment food is involved in any way, shape or form—all the rules go out the window. Here is Mamma showing just how unrefined she can be in the presence of a table. Seriously, the sight of a table, the rustle of a bag or the clink of a glass can set our little beast aflame with unbridled hunger. In fact, she would sit in her food if it were more convenient for her to eat! Anyway, we have been making strides to do away with this Paris-Hilton-table-top-hopping-habit that Mamma has picked up by sending her to a class. Yes, every other Saturday, Biscuit attends a manners and etiquette class hosted by Chloë Sevigny—the queen of refined pretension. In just one class, Mamma has learned the following:

• Never hog the disco snow

• When in Malawi, befriend an ocelot, when in Jaipur, eat it

• Never discuss social studies

• Honor yellow

• Learn to appreciate the casual arrogance of Tuesday Weld

• Never refuse a catalina slathered pig face

• Always curtsey

Click the video below to get a taste of what Chloë has been teaching Mamma!

Pugs just want to have fun!

So we picked up this fabulous vintage hat from our friends at Bahoukas Antique Mall in Havre de Grace, Maryland several weeks ago while traveling down to Washington DC. I honestly could not contain myself when I spotted this pink gem out of a line-up of hats on the wall that would make the Andrew Sisters green with envy. The stars must have been aligned because this beauty was made to fit Mamma’s exact head size—and the veil adds just enough drama and style for our little fashionable gremlin (I know, it’s sick. Mamma’s wardrobe is growing at an alarming rate). I also had the owners of the shop in stitches when I shared with them my intentions of having Mamma wear the hat and blogging about it—and because they found it so entertaining (and slightly concerned that a pug actually has a blog) they gave me a huge break on the price which made Daddy Biscuit very happy!

So here is she is—our little girl having a Cyndi Lauper moment! Yes, pugs just want to have fun and Mamma is leading the conga line right into her dog house! Or perhaps she’s preparing to attend service on a Sunday morning in the South, or a Gay funeral/wedding in New Orleans, or heading to the Opera at Lincoln Center, or a short walk through the Champs de Élysées like that annoyingly beautiful girl in the Dior perfume ads—the point is, with this hat, the possibilities are endless!
