Happy Mamma’s Day!

Today is a special day to honor all of the mothers around the world who have given life and have nurtured their young to be who they are today! The tremendous sacrifices every mother makes is beyond selflessness and the abundance of unconditional love they give to the world and their children (biological or adopted) is the very core of our existence. There is nothing quite like a mother’s love and support and it should never be taken for granted and should always be appreciated, highlighted and celebrated—not just today but every day of the year!

Mamma Biscuit is a mother of all mothers within the pug world. Our little angel had been forced to give birth to litter after litter of puppy pugs for the sole reason of making money—to fulfill a selfish need within humans to continue to buy animals for pets at pet stores. Mamma has had every single offspring ripped from her. She had been raped not only physically but also emotionally from not being able to make any connection to her babies the way any mother naturally does—all while being denied her own basic freedoms as an adult pug. All animals are sentient beings. They can feel pain, have the ability to suffer and have a conscious sense of impressions yet we continue to deny all animals the same kind of treatment and value we would demand for ourselves—as human beings and especially as mothers. It is important to remember today and every day that four million cats and dogs—about one every eight seconds—are put down in U.S. shelters each year. There is absolutely no ethical reason for this senselessness to continue—for anyone to buy an animal from a pet store or a breeder when so many can be adopted and saved. Today is a day when the Biscuit family honors the lady and the Mother of our household—Mamma Biscuit! Your story and your existence has proven to us that LOVE is pure medicine. That buying into perceived values of animals through breeding or convenience through pet stores is nothing but capitalistic bullshit. You are valued, you are loved and you are perfect the way you are Mamma Biscuit—even if you only have two teeth. We hope that wherever your babies are, that they too are valued and loved and appreciated for being the beautiful creatures that they are!

Happy Mamma’s Day Mamma B. You are our living angel!

Biscuit by the bay

There is nothing Mamma Biscuit enjoys more in the summer months than to take a long walk along the bay or the sea shore in the early morning sunlight! Sand, seaweed and a cool breeze is all it takes to put an ear-to-ear smile on our little gremlin! Thank goodness these photos were taken along the shores of Provincetown and not the Jersey Shore. The last thing Mamma would need during a morning walk like this is to be greeted by a passed out Snooki wearing pink, foamy, platform flip-flops and a cheap, tight Forever 21 cocktail dress pulled up and over her head! Well, if Mamma did stumble upon such a sight she would probably just sniff her exposed butt for hot moment and then walk off in disgust! Luckily, there was no beached Snooki or any “juice heads” lurking around on this bay and Mamma was able to relax and enjoy the natural elements along the water.

Pugs in general should only be at the beach during the cooler months or very early in the morning when the temperatures are at their lowest. They all have respiratory issues because of their smooshed in snout and high heat can really make breathing a struggle for them. Mamma seemed to be just fine on this sandy patch—just look at that smile!

I remember this morning vividly—Mamma off the leash and enjoying her boundless freedom. The Biscuits are ready for summer but there is only one problem, when the hell is it going to arrive?

Snackin’ in the Canyon

Mamma Biscuit will snack on a soft-chew treat at the drop of a dime. If she had been in a real canyon, I’m sure the echoes of her gremlin snout gumming her treat as you see in these photos would be pretty fucking impressive! They would probably scare off any lingering canyon coyote within her immediate vicinity. Of course we can’t bring Mamma to the real canyons of the Midwest but we can bring her to an urban simulation—she won’t know the difference, trust me!

Here is Mamma and her Daddy sharing a moment together in the “canyons” of the Upper West Side. All it takes is the rustling of her snack bag to get this Biscuit to stand on two legs! Once Mamma gets her one tooth workin’ you can’t get her to stop!

Enjoy!

Good Olde Mamma

If being Anna Wintour for Halloween didn’t qualify our little Biscuit as a fashion police in your eyes then maybe this will. Mamma Biscuit shook her curly tail all over the Upper West Side this past Sunday and stopped into the eclectic Olde Good Things on Columbus Avenue between 81st and 82nd Street. While zig-zagging her stout frame in vertico through altered antiques, Mamma stumbled upon this fantastic, metal, police car/toy for children from the 1930’s and we simply couldn’t resist having her take a spin in it. While snapping away during this photo opportunity, we inevitably drew a huge crowd of admirers who quickly fell smitten with Mamma’s charm. Too bad her charm couldn’t do anything to alter the price on this baby—I mean, $550.00 is a bit exorbitant to spend on our little gremlin, especially after she just received a rocking horse for Easter. Who knows though, Christmas is only 235 days away and if Mamma plays her cards right, she may get her chance at being able to hand out “cell phone/driving” tickets. . . . or worse, a fashion-disaster citation by the beginning of 2012.

Luxurious like Mamma

Tommy and I would rarely use the word luxurious in conversation before Mamma’s arrival into our household. It just never happened—unless of course we were watching some fashion runway footage on TV. Even then I would feel really awkward and weird saying it, like I was channeling the Countess Luann from the Real Housewives of New York or worse, André Leon Talley. Either way, it would just leave a really bad taste in my mouth. Thank goodness I haven’t adopted the word “darling” or the catch phrase “money can’t buy you class” from the (dis)Countess Luann. If that does happen in the future, I’ll just set myself on fire while screaming my pain through a voice coder.

With that said, upon Mamma’s arrival, all I do is constantly talk about how luxurious she is. Her fur, her folds, her warmth, her diamond brooch collection—all bundled up along with her dainty and lady-like disposition really defines what luxurious is to me. Honestly, she’s her most luxurious when she returns from her monthly visits to the groomers. She’s like a warm, living and breathing cashmere ottoman on four legs—and who wouldn’t want that walking from room to room in their home?

Anyway, here are a couple of photos of our Lady of Biscuits looking as luxurious as Egyptian cotton, 1000 thread count. These were taken at Decorium in Old Town Alexandria, VA. Mamma and the Biscuits are preparing for an upcoming visit to our nation’s capital in mid May and she intends on strutting her luxurious self through the charming cobble stone streets of Old Town. Decorium and especially The Christmas Attic (or how I like to call it, The Christmas Addict) are two of many sites of interest for our upcoming excursion.

Have a luxurious Monday everyone.
